Wind and Water Week 2

January 11-15 Wind and Water Theme
We are continuing our wind and water theme throughout the month of January. This theme allows children to explore wind and water using observations, experiments, and books to learn more about topics such as evaporation, weather, temperature, insulation, rain, and snow.
This week we are reading:
*Giberto and the Wind by Marie Hall
*One Dark Night by Hazel Hutchins

Small Groups this week·
. Making Pinwheels and Little Boxes (Math)
· What Can Air Move? (Science)
· Exploring Books (Literacy)

Center Activities this week:
Art: Blowing paint with straws
Easel: Painting with colors from the book Gilberto and the Wind (black, brown and white paint)and spraying water paint to see colors blend!
Writing: blank books with crayons, pencils and markers
Sand and Water: blowing sailboats with straws in water, funnels and other water wheels.
Library: exploring books
Puzzles and Manipulatives: Matching quantities of beads to numbers on kites and matching upper case lettes with clothespins
Dramatic Play: Vetrinary hospital and caring for pets
Sensory: playdough

Songs: Down by Bay; Apples and Bananas; Bingo; Five Green Speckled Frogs; Shake my Sillies Out
Poems: Boom! Bang!; Stand Up; Raindrops; Ten Little Fingers
Literacy Skills: Guess my word; Alphabet Clue; Beginning Sounds
