Dr. Suess Week

Theme – This week we will transition out of our World of Colors unit and enjoy some classic children’s literature. We will read Dr. Seuss’ ABC’s and The Cat and the Hat by Dr. Seuss. We will work on developing the students’ rhyming skills and expose them to these wonderful works!

Small Groups –
Language – Students will play a Cat and the Hat following directions game as they pretend to be like the silly cat from the story.
Motor – Students will use tongs to pick up scrabble letter Cheese-its. Students will make a picture using the letters of their names.
Math Group – Students will develop patterning skills as they make a red and white Dr. Seuss hat.

Choice: - Alphabet Arc game
- Sensory table with eggs and hidden treasures
- Observation station in the writing center. Students will observe our new frog eggs and will prepare journal entries.
- Dr. Seuss books on tape
- Painting Cat and Hat pictures on the easel

World of Color Culmination

Students in the morning Safari Scout class showed their class spirit, sporting their orange colored clothes and hand made hats!










During the World of Color Unit students experimented with colors. Here they are mixing primary colors to create new secondary colors!





We took a "field trip" to the lower library of the High School to admire the wonderful artwork created by the high school artists! Students were so excited to see all the colors used to create the masterpieces!

World of Color - Week 4

Theme – This week we will continue our Unit 4 of the Owl, World of Color. During this unit students will interact with colors explore topics such as color mixing, stains, fading, camouflage, and color patterns. Students will learn that color can be found in nature, that color can carry information, that paints and dyes are used to color things, colors can be mixed to make new colors and that sun and washing can make colors fade.

*Also, we are planning ahead for our upcoming unit. If you have any “beautiful junk”, we would appreciate it. Here’s what we need: shiny gift wrap, metal jars, plastic screw top container lids(peanut butter, coffee jars, etc), small metal cans, transparent and opaque jars or containers. 

Green is the color of the week.
Please have your child wear Green on Thursday.

Small Groups 
-Science –Color Mixing on Paper Towels.We will be observing how colors mix.
-Motor - Students will work on fine motor tasks such as writing their names, and they will engage in gross motor tasks while practicing some vocabulary from the stories. 
-Language- Naming and Labeling Paint Colors-We will be matching color words and colored materials. We will be focusing on beginning sounds of each letter as we sort.

Choice: - 
- Easel – Fruit and vegetable paintings
-Sensory table-sorting colored objects. We will be using fine motor tweezers and putting items into colored trays. 
- Dramatic Play – Ice Cream Shop. 
-Art Table- mixing primary colors for a class book 
-Language- creating green collage headbands and writing the word green on them
- Library-Books about colors 
- Blocks –Colored building blocks

Math- Students will develop one to one corresspondence skills as they make Ice Cream Cone math books.
Writing- We will use Dog’s Colorful Day as an inspiration to our own personal books. Each child will create their own retelling of this class book.
