World of Color - Week 1


World of Color
This week we will begin OWL Unit 4 called World of Color! During this unit students will learn about color names, color mixing, stains, fading, and color patterns. Throughout the story time books students will hear about a dog that stains his white coat, a lion who paints pictures, a boy who gets special letters from his grandmother, and a rabbit who wants to buy a special shirt. Children will increase their vocabulary and observe and explore color and patterns directly. They will continue to learn about letters and sounds, including rhyming words and they will participate in music, poetry, mathematics, science and art activities.

Small Groups:
Science and fine motor- Students will explore how materials can fade. They will conduct an experiment using colored conststruction paper. They will develop cutting skills with scissors.
Math - Students will explore colors and shapes as they play color and shape Bingo.
Math - Students will develop math skills as they create ABAB and ABC patterns.
*Special Activity - On Tuesday we will have our Valentine Exchange! Please remember to work with your child to write their names on the special notes they will send to their friends.*
Choice Time:
-Sensory Table- Water and bubbles
- Games table - Heart sticker counting game
-Easel - Painting pictures of Max's Dragon Shirt
-Creation table- Finger painting
**Art table - We will begin learning about a new letter each week! This week we will learn about the letter "N". Students will glue newspaper cutouts to the letter "N." We will save the picture to create an alphabet book.** Please look around your house with your child to find something that starts with the letter "N." Send it in this week for show and tell!
